Save money by maintaining your stormwater system. An urban stormwater system is made up of different elements. These elements need to be maintained for them to work properly. There are a few things that go into maintaining a stormwater system that local governments and HOA’s need to know.
First is maintenance responsibility. Maintenance responsibility is who is in charge or responsible) of the system. There are two main systems. The first is the water supply system. This means from the water meter to the structure is private and is the responsibility of the property owner.
From the meter outward is the responsibility of the local government, and the property owner pays a fee for treatment and delivery of water and construction and operation of the shared system (Forester Daily News).
The second is the sewer system. This means from the habitable structure to a sewer main is considered private and is the responsibility of the property owner.
From the main outward is the responsibility of the local government, and the property owner pays a fee for conveyance and treatment of sewage and construction and operation of the shared system (Forester Daily News).
Second is the extent and level of service. This is a system that carries a large flow of water. The extent of Service really focuses on dealing with liability and risk management and customer satisfaction problems. Third is the level of service.
The level of service addresses what services exactly they will be willing to use for stormwater system parts. The level of service mostly deals with flooding.
The susceptibility to flooding or water-quality problems caused by stormwater can be measured by assessing the performance Level of Service available (Forester Daily News).
