Ponds and lakes look beautiful when they freeze but can be extremely dangerous. Upstate South Carolina has seen the coldest temperatures since the early 1900’s this week. With these single digit temps ice on ponds and lakes froze overnight.
Like most kids ice and water are magnets for fun. But these fun times can become tragic when children become trapped or extremely cold in seconds.
Just dipping a shovel yesterday in a pond we do monthly pond service for froze instantly on the handle immediately after removing it from the water. Others on the news were seen tossing boiling water into the air and disappearing into thin air.
Cold water in ponds and lakes can be beautiful but let’s be extra careful to keep our friends, family and HOA’s safe during these low temps.
