Mosquito control is essential for stagnant bodies of water. The Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is the most problematic in Upstate Greenville SC. Often nearby ponds and lakes are often blamed for this biting mosquito.
But this kind of mosquito does not breed or reproduce in water with dirt. They typically reproduce in stagnate areas in bird baths, pools and containers left open around the yard. And a typical mosquito only has a 200-yard flying radius from its home.
Many other species of mosquitoes, however, will breed in a lake or pond. Here are several solutions to these mosquitoes as pond pests.
- Add aeration to your pond or lake. This will help with water temps and stagnation.
- Remove overgrown vegetation. Cattails are one the favorite places for mosquitoes to breed. These aquatic plants are also difficult to manage as the seeds with blow in the wind.
- Stocking with minnows or fish will also control your mosquito population in your neighborhood HOA pond.
