Stormwater management is essential to reducing ongoing costs for any homeowner, HOA, or commercial property. An outlet, dikes, levy, inlet or retention and detention pond need routine maintenance to keep acceptable stormwater flowing properly.
For example, Debbie (an HOA manager), said she thinks one of their pipes had been installed incorrectly a while back but wasn’t sure because she didn’t know about routine check-ups. We explained that one pipe installed improperly could be undermined and create excessive damage to an entire dike in just a few weeks. Not only that but geese nesting on overflow pipes, roots & debris clogging pipes can cause flooding. Routine check-ups and maintenance with grasses and trees can also prohibit tens of thousands of dollars in headaches. Debbie’s HOA joined as members, and we were able to guide them in how to properly care for their stormwater pond.
Most retention and detention ponds are inspected yearly by DHEC to ensure that the stormwater remediation is up to code. If you fail, you will be issued a citation with 30 days to respond and then bring your stormwater retention or detention pond into compliance.
It is our goal to provide our members with all the resources necessary with their stormwater ponds. By receiving the Certification from NCSU in Stormwater BMP Inspection & Maintenance, we now have the knowledge needed to be more proactive during our monthly check-ups saving you thousands of dollars in costly repairs.
