Temperature can affect everything in your pond or lake. Oxygen, fish, and even tiny microorganisms that each muck.

Water temperature, as you would guess, is how hot or cold the water is. Some fish like cooler water, while some like warmer water. However, water that is too hot or too cold could injure and even kill what is living in your pond.

There are a few factors that affect temperature. There’s sunlight, atmosphere, turbidity, confluence, and human-made influences. One thing we do not want to happen is stratification. That is when the top layer of the water gets heated, but the lower layer stays cool, preventing saturation of oxygen.

Bottom aerators are an energy efficient way of keeping the water healthy. It can help increase oxygen, lowering the risk of a fish kills. Bottom aeration can also reduce nutrients which fuel algae blooms in your pond or lake.
