Reducing the chances of a fish is the key to having a pond or lake stocked with big fish.  Proper pond and lake management is part the recipe for success for big bass but can be a blow to the gut when you wake up one morning and find your investment belly up.

Properly aerating a pond or lake is a must for any serious HOA or property owner.  High amounts of algae or aquatic weeds rob the pond or lake of oxygen ever evening.  Often fountains in retention ponds are turned off at night to conserve power.  But in the evening, the aeration is needed the most.

Excessive amounts of nutrients like goose dropping, drainage ditches, & storm water can quickly grow aquatic weeds with warm water temperatures.  Often the fish become frightened when low oxygen levels are critical.

But the biggest indicator is a few dead fish.  Fish kills happen over the course of several days and can be stopped by introducing surface aerators or water from another nearby pond or stream.

Keeping your pond healthy through prevention with the use of bottom aerators and careful monthly pond and lake management is the best recipe for success.
